Frequently Asked Questions

  • Functional medicine is root-cause, systems biology medicine. With functional medicine we ask “why” an illness or symptom is occurring and “how” can we restore health and wellness. In conventional medicine, there is often a focus on a single symptom or system and oftentimes medications are used for each complaint because there isn’t the time to get to the root cause.

There is a time and place for conventional medicine as well as for prescription medications, and I intend to work in conjunction with your Primary Care Provider and be a apart of your healthcare team. My goal is to bridge what is missing in conventional medicine with extended education, lifestyle & nutritional modifications.

I firmly believe that getting to the root cause is the most important step to health. I am trained in both conventional and functional medicine and use a blend of both approaches to provide truly holistic, integrative care.

  • The simple answer is No. Even though I am licensed as a Family & Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, I am not your primary care provider. As part of our patient agreement, you must maintain an active relationship with your traditional primary care provider for yearly physicals, screenings, and urgent needs and care that I cannot provide in this model. I do not provide after-hours care for emergencies or urgent matters. I am happy to collaborate with your PCP or other healthcare team members regarding your care if you would like me to.

  • At this time, I provide telehealth visits only. In-clinic visits will be available in the near future, for those who prefer in-person services. Please send me an e-mail if you are interested in in-person visits.

  • At this time, I do not accept insurance.

When practitioners accept insurance, they are restricted by contracts with insurance companies that dictate what services can be provided. Insurance often influences the type of care practitioners can provide, which does not lead to great results for patients with complex needs. This is why our current conventional healthcare system is falling short. There is simply not enough time to provide patients with quality, root cause and preventative care.

On that note, the extended 1:1 time and services I provide, I feel it is in my patient’s best interest to not accept insurance.

I am, however, able to accept FSA/HSA cards as payment. In some cases, you may be able to utilize your insurance carrier’s out of network benefits. In those cases, I am happy to provide a super bill for reimbursement. Please note, you are responsible for checking your insurance and/or FSA/HSA servicer’s requirements.

Payment is due at time of service, with the exception of programs and bundles, in which I am happy to arrange payment plans. Please contact me if you are interested in a payment plan.

  • Your appointment will vary from 30-90 minutes depending on visit. Although we may not use the entire time slot for your appointment, this time is reserved for you and no one else. Please cancel your appointment online or by phone at least 48 hours prior to your appointment if you need to cancel. This will allow time for the slot to be filled by another patient. If you do not notify us at least 48 hours in advance, you will be charged a $75 cancellation/no-show fee.

For patients and clients who purchase packages or programs, and are unable to utilize their visits, all remaining sessions will be honored for up to one calendar year initial visit.

  • At this time, I am only able to accept patients physically in Oregon or Washington state at the time of the visit. Yes, you can travel here to see me. Additional state licensing are in process (AZ, NV, ID, UT) as demand grows. Sign up for my newsletter to be the first to know when new states are added!

If you reside outside of these states, please contact me to see how I can help you. I do provide educational consultations to clients in other states. This means I can provide you with education regarding a particular health condition or medicine in general. In these visits, I do not diagnose, treat or prescribe medications. In other words, these visits are for general medical knowledge and direction only.

I’m also happy to refer you to colleagues that are accepting patients near you.

  • I work with a variety of lab companies including: Precision Analytical (DUTCH), Diagnostic Solutions Lab (GI MAP), Genova, Vibrant America, ZRT labs, Labcorp, Quest, 3x4 genetics, KBMO, Access medical and more.

I use a conservative approach to labs, supplements and pharmaceuticals. This means, I’ll only recommend what you actually need based on your history, clinical picture and goals. Although functional medicine specialty testing can provide key clues into your health, there is a lot I can do to help you with just an expanded conventional lab set. I believe in the right labs, at the right time for the right reason and I do not upcharge for any labs ordered.

Basic labs can be billed to insurance, but I highly caution this. Unfortunately, many times patients are billed at higher rates than what I can obtain for you at a cash price. Paying an upfront, cash price means no surprise bills months after your visit. I cannot control what your insurance will cover, or what they might charge you, should it not be approved.

  • Yes, if needed. Medications are prescribed based on patient history, necessity and as part of a patient-provider agreement.

Prescription medications can be processed through insurance. In some cases, medications will not be covered, and in those cases I offer alternatives. I work closely with several highly accredited compounding pharmacies and their pharmacists. In doing so, I will strive to get you the highest quality medications for the lowest prices.

I rarely believe it’s in the best interest of my patients to rely on chronic narcotics, sedatives or controlled substances, and thus infrequently prescribe them.

  • Appointments can be made through my electronic medical record (EMR) scheduling system here.

If you do not see an appointment slot that is convenient for you, please reach out to me at hello@stacymarienp.com or via text at 503-208-4610. I will be happy to find a time that is better suited for your needs.

  • Due to the nature of the services I provide, I do not provide refunds on services rendered, as well as on any medications or lab testing.

For patients and clients who purchase packages or programs, and are unable to utilize their visits, all remaining sessions will be honored for up to one calendar year initial visit.
